“Psychology at Crossroads”: A Panel Discussion on pathways to becoming a psychologist in India.
IAPS organised a much needed panel discussion on pathways to becoming a psychologist in India. The title of the panel discussion was “Psychology at Crossroads”.
The panellists who were invited to share their experience and expertise in the respective fields were Dr Deepti Balla from Visakhapatnam, Dr Susmita Haldar from Kolkata and Ms Ann Choolackal from Bangalore.
Dr Deepti Balla is Academic advisor to Indian Psychologists Network (IPN)
Part of ‘core experts’ committee’ of NCAHP
Dr Susmita Haldar is Licensed clinical psychologist; Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Studies, St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata; and The Secretary of the Asian CBT Association.
Ms Ann Choolackal is a RCI licensed Clinical Psychologist; Associated with Silver Oak Health as the Chief Clinical Officer.
Dr Vasuki Mathivanan, Founder of IAPS was the moderator.
With recent policy shifts and mixed messages from NEP, RCI AND NCAHP, this discussion was the need of the hour.
The panellists gave insights into guiding students who wish to take up Psychology and enter the field of mental health. The professionals who participated got clarity and the discussion was skilfully steered by Dr Vasuki. It was reiterated that this is a beginning. More such discussions are needed and IAPS has a great role to play in carrying this further.
IAPS wishes to thank the panellists for their contributions in clarifying the confusion. IAPS also wishes to thank the participants for their presence.
We received excellent feedback.
